Moo-ving Forwards

A new race always brings an added element of excitement to a race calendar, and having two new events to add to the circuit this year has given us double the excitement. Today it was the turn of Stilton Striders to showcase their hard efforts to get a new race on, providing us with the Hose 10 in the Vale of Belvoir. Working with the local parish council to help them revive their lost event in the Belvoir Half Marathon, the 10 mile race saw a return to our calendar of that distance since the John Fraser 10 was last able to run all the way back in 2019 (and what a different place the world felt then!) After a baking hot summer, early Autumn has brought some unsettled weather, and whilst nothing as dramatic as the post-Hermitage 5 thunderstorms were witnessed, steady rainfall fell across the course overnight and into the morning giving us plenty of puddles to avoid in parts, and a grassy finish field to avoid slipping on with tired legs. To add to the carnival, we were even met with an enthusiastic bovine crowd at the halfway point who were very keen for a close eye on the athletic action, so keen in some cases they even tried to join the event. Thanks to the local farmers for ensuring their herd remained off the pitch (mostly) and allowed all the runners to pass safely without incident. Thank you to Stilton Striders for successfully delivering this new event for us to enjoy. Following on from his Hermitage 5 defeat, Badgers Matt Scarsbrook was in no mood to mess around and returned to victory, finishing in 53:27, just under a minute ahead of Alexander Adie from Desford Striders who took second in 54:12. Michael Cheverton of Barrow Runners continued his fine season, finishing off the male podium in 54:32. Guest runner Charlie Thornton took the overall female race victory (and 8th overall) in a superb time of 57:07, although it was Emma Brown of Rutland Running & Triathlon Club taking her first ever LRRL win in 01:03:33. Abigail Wheelhouse followed on from an impressive race at the Hermitage 5 with second in 01:03:52, and Charlie Austin of West End Runners rounding off the LRRL podium in 01:04:46. Overall for the race we saw 471 finishers (283M, 188F). The race results age categories present the runners age on the day, not an individuals LRRL season category (albeit this will be the same for 90% of participants). We are away on holiday for the next 7 days in LRRL Towers. As usual please email queries to lrrlresults@gmail.com. All queries will be resolved, but they may be longer than usual. We will have the results finalised and tables updated on our return, so you will have to wait a couple of days longer than usual post race. Top 10 Results (LRRL runners only).
