Red Kites Soar Whilst Runners Seek Shade
First up, a confession (although in reality we suspect at least 95% of people who read these know this already), the writer of these blog posts is deeply involved within West End Runners and is therefore always going to be defensive, and biased, toward their own club's event. All our races in the League face challenges in being able to go ahead, and especially in this year which has thrown up more issues than most, but its fair to say the West End 8 probably has more than mo

A Bridge Too Far
Regular readers (hello, both of you), there was only one headline we could ever have chosen for Wednesday evening's race at Watermead Country Park, although in the end it wasn't a bridge too far as we got to test Leicestershire County Council's engineering department's skills by sending 600 runners charging over a bridge that had only been finished 24 hours prior. The "will-they-won't they" bridge has been the hot topic of discussion for this event ever since the existing br

Welcome to Summer!
Its felt a long time since we last all met in the early Spring/late Winter sunshine at the Kibworth 6, but today the LRRL sprang into action once more as we returned to Bosworth Water Park, and the second Desford Striders organised race of the season, the Bosworth Half. Met with far cooler temperatures than seen in prior years and prior days, a sold out race started by the local Member of Parliament saw 710 finishers (per draft results) complete the 13.1 mile course around t

County Standards - 2026 Update
County Standards For many years, a standards scheme has existed within Leicestershire for runners of all age groups to use to target race performances, and to track their improvement as they seek to improve, or maintain, their running performances from year to year. Up until now, this scheme was set up and monitored by the Leicestershire & Rutland Athletics Network (LRAN), an organization which has now ceased to exist. As a result, the County Standards scheme needs a new ho

Kibworth 6...in Poetry!
Delving into the mailbag this week, we received this acrostic poem from West End Runner Ramandeep Kaur to describe the weekend's events. Try as we might, we can never capture the full flavour of all League races through our own reports, but if you are a runner in the League and ever want to share your own experiences through our blog then we'd love to hear from you! Prose or poetry very welcome... Thank you Ramandeep! K ibworth 6 today, wonderfully hosted by Roadhoggs and

Scarsbrook Takes Tight Win Whilst OWLS 1-2 Sees Edge on Top
There may have been another big running event taking place in the city of Leicester today, but the real competition (yes, we're biased!) took place in the quiet country lanes of south Leicestershire as Round 2 of the 2026 Leicestershire Road Running League season took place on the ever popular, but challenging, Kibworth 6 course. Despite fears that Friday night's deluge of rain had left large tracts of water blocking the course, Sunday morning brought clear skies, and more i

Seymour & Frankland Take Opening Honours
After some late drama regarding the hosting venue, thanks to the incredible stoicism and work of Desford Striders we were able to still kick off our 2026 season today at the adjusted Desford 5. It was a fierce battle at the front of the mens race as various athletes battled it out at the front at various points, but victory for our season opener was taken by George Seymour of Wreake Runners, winning his first ever Leicestershire Road Running League race in a time of 26:36.

Welcome!
Welcome to our brand new website, which we have migrated over having piggybacked off the Leicestershire & Rutland Athletics Network website for many years. This is the League's first full foray into its own web presence and we are sure there is lots more to do. Please bear with us as we fully build our site, but this will be the place first and foremost to receive all your news and information for the LRRL.
