There are times in life where your phone rings, and the time and call ID immediately inform you it is unlikely to be good news on the other end of the phone. Cue 7.30am on Sunday morning and our phone is ringing from Race Director Cheryl. "The parking plug has been pulled again" she says, "But we've got something alternative sorted, can you get this message out?" Absolutely we say, do as instructed and carry on. Then at 7.45am its Race Director Cheryl again, "We've managed to get it fixed! Can you remove that message?" So apologies to all for the mixed messaging on social media this morning. A fast moving, unplanned for situation that thankfully resolved itself and allowed us all to carry on as normal. Well done to Cheryl and the Desford team for some fast thinking, quick negotiation, and ultimately smooth operation to allow us all to arrive as if nothing had ever gone awry to start with. After suffering a week where the UK has been left sweltering, we had a day where in normal times it would be considered a hot day's running, but in fact felt like a welcome cool break from the intensely hot weather. A nice breeze on the way out on the bridle path also meant we would be on the receiving end of an appreciated tail wind on the final dash to the finish line. Our second visit to this course for 2026 saw Matt Scarsbrook from Badgers continue his dominating form, taking victory in 26:10. His margin of victory was over a minute, ahead of George Seymour from Wreake Runners who by running 27:12 managed to pip Barrow Runners Michael Cheverton to second place who finished third in 27:16. Amy Pizzorno of Birstall RC continued her claim as a serious title contender by taking victory in the womens race in 30:37, placing ahead of West End Runners' Charlie Austin who took her highest place to date this year in 31:29. Rachel Haddon from Hinckley RC placed third in 31:34. Our draft results feature 591 runners, with 352 male finishes to 239 female. As ever, we expect to have final results and updated league tables issued in a week's time. Please email any queries to lrrlresults@gmail.com as soon as possible for us to clear them. We now head into the summer break before we return for the Joy Cann 5 on Wednesday 5 August. Entries for this race go on sale at Event Entry on Sunday 5 July at 8pm. This race will likely sell out very quickly so be on time or risk missing out. We also do not now have a Sunday race until September with the brand new Hose 10. We will likely have very different weather conditions by then! Congratulations and thank you to Desford Striders on delivering their third League race of the year today. Time for them all to take a well earned break from race organising. See you all soon! Top 10 Male Finishers:-
