Its felt a long time since we last all met in the early Spring/late Winter sunshine at the Kibworth 6, but today the LRRL sprang into action once more as we returned to Bosworth Water Park, and the second Desford Striders organised race of the season, the Bosworth Half. Met with far cooler temperatures than seen in prior years and prior days, a sold out race started by the local Member of Parliament saw 710 finishers (per draft results) complete the 13.1 mile course around the country lanes of south west Leicestershire. The Bosworth Half holds a fairly unique place in the LRRL calendar in being the only race that is immediately open to all, and sees a significant number of non-League runners. Our following data summary will focus on the League placings rather than the race as a whole, although we are controlling the results process for the entire race, so League or non-League runner, should you have any query over the race results please email us at lrrlresults@gmail.com and we will ensure it is sorted for you. The full draft results can be viewed on our Results page here. Our overall race win was taken by Matt Scarsbrook of Badgers, taking another LRRL win and a dominant one at that, finishing in 1:11:58, nearly a minute and a half ahead of his closest challenger Michael Cheverton of Barrow Runners in 1:13:23. Ben Darlow of West End Runners took the final podium spot of the day, placing third a further minute back in 1:14:23. The Ladies race win was taken by Claire Frankland of West End Runners, finishing with a superb sub-80 minute time in 1:19:29, taking home an enormous veg box as part of her winning prize (we assume the winning male received a similar prize, but the author only saw the ladies one...). Frankland's win was event more dominant than Scarsbrook's, being over seven minutes ahead of her nearest challenger, the ever improving and impressive Amelia Cook of Beaumont RC who finished in 1:26:45, doubling up as the first placed junior runner. Just shy of two minutes back, but taking a second podium place for Beaumont RC was Sarah Thorp in 1:28:34, also placing as the first vet finisher of the day. The first Vet Male finisher of the day was Chris Horton from Badgers, taking first in 1:17:35, ahead of Gurmit Singh of Roadhoggs in 1:18:25. Scott Green of OWLS AC capped off an impressive performance with third place in 1:19:17. Finishing behind Sarah Thorp in the Vet Ladies race was Laura Storer of Birstall RC in 1:35:57, and Saya Sheridan of debut club Rutland Running & Triathlon Club in 1:36:56. The Junior Mens race win was taken by Jake Curson of Leicester Triathlon Club in 1:19:26, with Jake Blythe (Barrow Runners) following in 1:20:10, and Harry Chapman making it a double podium for Leicester Triathlon Club in 1:23:51.
